The European Centre for Press and Media Freedom (ECPMF) extends its deepest condolences to the family of Christophe Deloire, director general of Reporters without Borders (RSF). Christophe was a tireless defender of journalism and his loss will be felt deeply across the press freedom community.

Christophe leaves an enormous footprint across the world. His efforts to defend and sustain free, independent quality journalism have been felt and appreciated by journalists and media professionals from Latin America through Ukraine to Central Asia.

Christophe Deloire has been instrumental in garnering support for journalists in conflict zones, for speaking out against strategic litigation targeting media, and for advocating for access to information.

Mogens Blicher Bjerregard, Chair of the ECPMF Executive Board, said “I was shocked receiving the sad news that Christophe Deloire has passed away. He dedicated his life to fighting for the safety of journalists and freedom of journalism. We will miss him.”

Rebecca Harms, Vice Chair of the ECPMF Executive Board said: “My thoughts are with the family, colleagues, and friends of Christophe Deloire. He & his work for the freedom of the press will be remembered by journalists around the world.”

In all of our collaborations with RSF, Christophe’s strong, compassionate voice was unmistakable. His legacy will surely live on in the global journalists’ community.
