The European Centre for Press and Media Freedom (ECPMF) is proud to announce the establishment of its Journalists-in-Exile Programme (JiE Programme). This significant step underscores our long-term commitment to providing structured, sustained support for journalists and media professionals forced to flee their home countries.

By establishing the JiE Programme, ECPMF solidifies its recognition of exile as a pressing press freedom issue and reaffirms its dedication to ensuring journalists in exile can rebuild their lives and careers. The programme comprises all ECPMF exile-related projects and activities, including the flagship “Perspektiven im Exil/Opportunities in Exile” project (PiE), funded by BKM since 2023.

Under this programme, journalists in exile will be designated as JiE Fellows, receiving targeted support for professional development and participation. The programme represents a move towards deeper engagement, ensuring a long-term, comprehensive framework to meet the unique challenges of journalists in exile.
