We’re counting down to the #UNCOVERED conference next week, showcasing the best in European cross-border investigative journalism.

Sadly, we also have to document the cost of attacks on journalists and media workers, with physical attacks in France, UK and Germany, legal proceedings in Malta and snooping in Sicily. Our online fact-finding mission to Spain revealed serious press freedom concerns - soon to be published in the mission report.

Too often, litigation is abused by the wealthy, powerful and thin-skinned to avoid public scrutiny of their actions. To challenge these abuses, we’re actively campaigning with partner organisations to outlaw the abusive practice known as Strategic Lawsuits Against Public Participation (SLAPPs). As one of almost 30 partners in the newly-launched CASE group and more than 100 signatories calling for urgent action from the Council of Europe, we are documenting SLAPPs - like the recent case in Poland - supporting journalists targeted for their public interest reporting and urging legislative and policy reform.

All media freedom violations are counted and verified on the Mapping Media Freedom monitoring platform. And we count on you to report them.

Take care,
