Professional Odyssey: My journalistic odyssey began as a freelance journalist. I reported on local issues with dedication and fearlessness. In this way, I attracted the attention of TNN Radio, Daily Naibaat, and The Frontier Post. I joined them as a journalist and expanded my reach.
Overcoming challenges: I faced resistance in my pursuit of the truth. I was imprisoned by the local authorities for exposing their corruption through my newspaper articles. My reporting on child and forced marriages in Kurram District exposed deep-rooted social problems. I received threats from the Taliban and local elders and I defied them.
I have also received threats from intelligence agencies for my reporting on drone strikes in Kurram. An attempt on my life, with a grenade thrown at my house, showed the risks I was taking in trying to get to the truth.
Life in Germany: Today I live in Germany. A country that has welcomed me with open arms. I enjoy the freedom to express myself without fear. This is in stark contrast to the dangers I faced in my home country. I would like to dedicate a special thank you to Reporters Without Borders (RSF), who have helped me along the way.
Summary: My life’s journey reflects the indomitable spirit of a journalist committed to the truth, even in the face of grave danger. As such, my story should serve as a moving reminder of the sacrifices journalists make in the pursuit of their profession.
In order to achieve my goal of working as a journalist in Germany, I am now working on my language skills. I am also dependent on support, for example in the form of financial assistance or language courses. I would therefore like to thank ECPMF for offering me this support.
