Venue: Cinematheque Leipzig
Language: Ukrainian, Russian (with English subtitles)
Duration: 49 minutes

Behind every report from the frontlines, there are journalists who risk their lives to tell the truth. “Vika’s Last Assignment” sheds light on one such story of Ukrainian journalist Viktoria Roshchyna, who set out to document life under Russian occupation and never returned.
A special screening of the “Vika’s Last Assignment” will take place at Cinematheque Leipzig on 22 October at 19:30. Following the screening, there will be an online Q&A session with the journalists behind this investigative film.
The documentary follows Viktoria’s final reporting trip to Russian-occupied territories, where she was detained and imprisoned in the Taganrog SIZO-2 detention centre. Journalists from Slidstvo.Info, together with colleagues from Reporters Without Borders, Suspilne, and Graty, retraced her path, uncovered the conditions of her imprisonment, and gathered testimonies from those who saw her and communicated with her, revealing the brutality of repression faced by reporters in wartime.

Mach mit und werde Teil einer starken Stimme für Pressefreiheit!
What is press freedom? And what happens, if journalists and the media are under threat? These questions are at the centre of the workshop “Free Media – Free People” hosted by the ECPMF and the Medienwerkstatt in Leipzig. Together, we will take a look at the state of press freedom then and now – in Germany, Europe, and beyond. You will learn how journalists work, meet people who have come under pressure for their reporting, and work with experts from the European Center for Press and Media Freedom. As part of the workshop you will collectively work on producing a piece of media yourself , and, on the last day, we will open your exhibition together at 11 a.m. Join us and become part of a strong voice for press freedom!
